The last of the N. N. Polikarpov design bureau biplane fighter family was the I-153. It had a gull-shape dupper wing, a retractable chassis and a more powerful armament with four ShKAS machine guns. Serial planes had M-62 radial engines; the late series had a more powerful M-63. I-153 were used in combat until mid 1943. Some of them were equipped with winter ski chassis.
