The successful 7.62cm Krupp IG (infantry gun) gun is converted from captured Russian guns. It mounts a light field howitzer on a light-weight trail they can be easily man-handelled across no-mans land. In contrast to the 7.7cm field guns, these guns are always available near the front line, as they are under direct control of the troops. The IG gun does not have the drawback of heavier, indirect firing guns, that risk rounds falling short and hitting attacking troops.
