The Yak-1 was designed by Yakovlev OKB at the onset of World War II and was introduced in 1940. Its composite wooden architecture provided benefits in both easy maintenance and also contributed to the fighter's excellent maneuverability. A total of 8,700 were constructed from 1940 to 1944, and they remained in service until 1950. Interestingly when Yak-1 derivatives such as the Yak-3, Yak-7, Yak-9, Yak-11, and Yak-15 are taken into account a total of 43,000 airframes have been constructed, making it one of the most produced aircraft platforms of all time. This 1/48 scale model captures the participant of the famous Battle of the Stalingrad and when constructed it is 17.3cm long and 6.9cm tall.
