The Pz.KpFW. Germany developed III in response to the Russian KV and T-34 tanks on the Eastern Front. The Ausf. L variant entered production in 1942 and was armed with an improved Kwk50 L/60 tank gun, which could attack T34s at a range of 600m. It also featured 2 7.92mm MG34 machine guns. The extra weight was added with the implementation of extra armor for the front superstructure, increasing the thickness to 57mm with another 20mm added to the gun mantlet. The suspension had to be adjusted to withstand the new weight, and a Maybach V-12 engine was instrumental in propelling the tank at 300hp. In total, 635 Ausf. Ls were produced at year's end, 1942, with many of these serving on the Eastern and North African Front. When fully assembled, this 1/35 scale model measures 17.5cm long and includes markings for seven vehicles, three of which participated in the Battle of Kursk.
