End development of the Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank. The Chi-Nu featured an enlarged hull, increased armor, and mounted the Type-3 75mm L/38 gun. Production began in 1944, ending with Japans surrender in 1945. Due to supply shortages, production was limited to between 144166 vehicles. Allotted to defense of the home islands, the Chi-Nu did not see active combat.
